America Becomes Socialistic
Also see my report at http://ourdaysreports.wordpress.com/2009/04/07/america-and-socialism/
Is America accepting socialism a bad thing or a good thing? I have my opinion about this but that is not the question. The question is what you think and what you want.
The Face of America evolves as its people evolve. Socialism is not the future our “Founding Fathers” saw for us, but it is what many in America see for it’s future now. This is why I approach this question now, so you can make a decision of whether that is the America you want to live in or not.
If the Face of America becomes different than what you want, you have three choices.
- You can “suck it up” and accept the reality that “It is what it is.” You can say, “Resistance is futile…there is nothing I can do about it.”
- Or you can open your mouth and say what’s on your mind, perhaps influencing others, and voice your objection to your representatives. Perhaps you will have an impact on them.
- Or you can “up the anti” and rebel through signing petitions, participating in demonstrations, and writing articles and blogs like I am in hopes of making your opinion known to others. Perhaps your comments will impact policy.
The good thing about Americans is their willingness to change policy. They are not afraid to voice their objections when they disagree with something. Our history is full of examples where people have changed society.
- We have changed the right of women to vote, hold jobs, and be treated with respect.
- We have changed the right of Negroes to live as a human being and not as property and slaves.
- We have changed the right of Negroes to vote, hold office, and be treated with respect.
- We have changed the right of children to be protected from abuse.
- We have protected the right to voice negativity about government and to recall or impeach those who don’t perform.
We have grown up to be an interesting society, and feel blessed for what our forefathers did for us. They gave us the foundation upon which we can grow and build a healthy society. Basically, I think we’ve grown up to be pretty healthy but we do have some areas we need to improve before we will be a healthier society than we are now.
This is admirable and makes me proud to be an American. However, one thing I would like to see us improve is our patriotism. The level of patriotism I saw as a child in the fifties and sixties is much different than we see today.
Our youth show little patriotism today, and they don’t seem to understand the concept as I did in my youth. Even the Boy Scout program, where patriotism is the main focus, doesn’t really affect the youth’s attitude about being an American. They don’t seem to understand what the big deal is about being patriotic. I think that is a sad commentary, and should be an area to spend more time in developing.
What I love about the American people is our ability to come together in times of crisis. We are a giving society with a love for humanity. We also have no stomach for abuse or for war. We may disagree with each other but, as a whole, we try to get along with people the best we can.
The Face of America is a Kind, Loving, Generous, and Peaceful Society.
I challenge you to take more interest in your country and nurture patriotism in your home. I think what I remember most as a child is having patriotism exhibited in the home and nation.
I welcome your comments on this subject.
